How does a rotary dryer work?

A rotary dryer is a device used for drying materials. It is usually composed of a long cylinder that rotates in a horizontal or inclined state. This rotation improves the contact efficiency between the material and the hot air flow, thereby accelerating the evaporation of water.

Rotary dryer working principle

The wet material is added to the drum drying main unit from the front end, and when passing through the inside of the drum, it is effectively contacted with the hot air passing through the drum or the heated wall surface and is dried.
The dried product is collected from the lower rear end of the drum. The main body of the rotary dryer is a slightly inclined and rotatable drum. During the drying process, the material moves from the higher end to the lower end under the action of gravity with the help of the slow rotation of the drum.

A shovel or similar device is installed on the inner wall of the drum, which continuously scoops up and sprinkles the material, so that the contact area between the material and the hot air is increased. In order to increase the drying rate and promote the forward movement of the material at the same time, the heat carrier used in the drying process is generally air, flue gas or superheated water vapor. If the heat carrier is air or flue gas, the exhaust gas after drying must be dedusted by a dust collector before being discharged to avoid pollution to the environment.

Comments of rotary dryer

The rotary dryer consists of several key parts to ensure an efficient drying process. The components are as follows:

●Heating part: mainly used to provide the required heat source, which can be steam, hot water or a combustion furnace, etc., to help increase the temperature of the drying medium.

●Feeder: used to feed the material to be dried into the dryer evenly. Under the action of the feeder, the material can enter the drying drum at an appropriate speed and flow rate.

●Drum drying host: This is the core part of the dryer, where the material comes into contact with the hot air and is dried through heat transfer and water evaporation. The drum is usually an inclined rotating cylinder, and the material moves along the cylinder under the action of gravity and rotation and gradually dries.

●Fan: responsible for feeding dry air or hot air into the dryer and helping to discharge moisture to maintain a good drying environment. The performance of the fan directly affects the drying efficiency.

●Dust collector: used to collect and filter particulate matter and dust during the drying process to protect the environment and the normal operation of the equipment. Dust collectors can be in various forms such as bag type and cyclone type.

●Control cabinet: used to control the operation of the entire drying system, including monitoring and adjusting parameters such as temperature, air volume, and material flow, to achieve automatic control.
